Honoring Women Making
Motorcycle History

A leader and a
legend in women’s motocross, Tami Rice a.k.a. “Wild Rice”,
heeds her inner calling to
uphold and maintain equal rights for female racers.
This calling runs deep in her
blood, being the daughter
of motocross pioneer John
Rice. MX racing is just
second nature to her, she
was born to race. In the
late 1980s and early
90s,
Rice was one of the
founding members in the
first American Suzuki
Women’s Motocross Team, which
traveled cross country
setting precedents and
advocating for a woman’s place on the track. It's no surprise
that she caught
the eye of the international
sector and was contacted
by Italian promoters wanting
US involvement in the 1992
La Femme International
Motocross Championships. Without much ado by Tami, the US
Women’s MX Team
was assembled and off to
Italy. After successfully competing abroad, Tami approached one
of her sponsors, Acerbis USA,
with a concept for designing
a chest protector that
fit
a woman’s needs - at the
time chest protectors
were made only for men.
Today female motocross racers
world wide wear a protector known as Acerbis “Ladies Fusion”,
thanks to
Tami's efforts and input.
Nowadays, Tami is an
influential MSF Dirt Bike instructor and webmastress
of motocross-related
Web sites such as WomensMXhistory.com,
while continuing to compete
in AHRMA vintage and WMA
events. It's her unwavering dedication to all things
women MX, that
HH honors “Wild Rice” as a
true pioneer.
